TONE POT WIRING DIAGRAM LOW CUT
Tone Control Wiring for Your Guitar - Humbucker Soup
May 11, 2018This is the basic Volume control wiring. Add the Tone control by soldering a wire from Tab 1 of the Volume control to Tab 2 of the Tone control. Solder the capacitor from Tab 3 of the Tone control to the back of the Tone control pot, being mindful of the polarity of the capacitor. The Negative side goes to the back of the pot.

So if 250K pots are used, the load is reduced from 125K to 250K and if 500K pots are used, the load is reduced from 250K to 500K (high resistance = low load) The reduced load allows more power output from he pickup and reduces the amount of high frequencies that bleed off to ground.
Volume Pots & Tone Pots: How Do They Work? | Fralin Pickups
Mar 03, 2017TONE POT BASICS: A Tone Pot is nothing but a regular pot, with a capacitor soldered to it. A Tone Pot will work the same way as a Volume Pot, but just a little different. Instead of sending the entire signal to ground, the tone cap helps by sending only a part of the signal to ground.
Basic Electric Guitar Circuits 2: Potentiometers & Tone
The tone pot's resistance is the same for all signal frequencies; however, the capacitor has AC impedance which varies depending on both the signal frequency and the value of capacitance as shown in the equation below. Capacitor Impedance = Z capacitor = 1 2 π f C

The control pots you choose affects your tone. In our Which control pot to choose article, we explain how a control pot lets some of your guitar's high frequencies escape to ground instead of getting to the amp. This affects your tone. For example, switching from 250K to 500K pots will mean a brighter sound.
Understanding Guitar Pots and Caps | Potentiometers
Jun 05, 2019The tone pots and capacitors combine to create a low-pass filter. How you integrate it into your wiring plan adds another dimension to the manipulation of your tone. When you opt to lower the pot your treble is throttled and your tone gets darker.
