Biotic And Abiotic Ecosystems Worksheets & Teaching
This PowerPoint show guides students through creating a graphic organizer that defines, illustrates, and labels the living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) factors in an ecosystem. The show moves forward with the click of a spacebar or mouse, so you can set the pace for your students. (There are 2
a graphic organizer: food chain: food web: biotic factors
Students can create their own ecosystems and learn about the interactions between abiotic and biotic factors. Illustration shows cutting the top of one bottle and bottom of the other, taping them together to form a bottom reservoir into which a string dips to provide water to the soil in the upper bottle.
Day 0: Ecological Levels of Organization - A Single Butterfly:
After mapping the basic levels of organization on a graphic organizer, we applied our knowledge of the Greek prefix, "BIO-" to predict the difference between "biotic" and "abiotic" factors. Then we discussed which levels of organization included only interactions among biotic factors and which level was the first to introduce abiotic factors into its biological interactions.
10/19: Lesson Two- Abiotic and Biotic Components
4.2.A. Examine the interaction between abiotic and biotic factors within a watershed. The students will be able to differentiate between abiotic and biotic factors when using a graphic organizer. The students will be able to describe to a partner the way abiotic and biotic factors affect a watershed.

Biology - Student Reader & Workbook Unit 5, Ecology
• Biotic factors are the living aspects of the environment. They consist of other organisms, including members of the same and different species. The Ecosystem An ecosystem is a unit of nature and the focus of study in ecology. It consists of all the biotic and abiotic factors in an area and their interactions. Ecosystems can vary in size.
