Jul 23, 2019Figured out that if I prime the fuel filter housing it will eventually start. This has happened 3 times now and all 3 times have been after I was hauling heavy loads of 12k lbs. Oct 15, 2014Put 10 PSI on the system and crawl all over the truck and look for seeping fuel or air. The last time I had an issue it was the gasket in the primer, but really the leak could be anywhere. Many people have reported very tiny cracks in the filter head that cause loss of prime issues. Rebuilt existing filter head -- helped but didnt solve problem New filter head -- helped but didnt solve problem I have a Kennedy single pump setup (what a nice kit!) ready..

Oct 25, 20191. Why remove another filter? The more filtration the better 2. should the LP fail and you need to reprime the system you will be unable without the pump on the filter head. I would also simply buy a new filter head with a new filter. For around $100 you can get them both together. A bit more money but a sure fire fix for a leaky filter head.

Apr 14, 2015Hi all, my 2008 GMC Duramax loses prime sometimes. Has 102,000 miles currently. Seems like when it is uphill, maybe just coincidence, I don't know. Will start and run a few seconds, and then die. When I go outside and prime it back up it will start and run just as it should. Please correct..

Jul 14, 2012I have a 2007 GMC 3500 6 Diesel truck that loses its prime while pulling a load after the engine gets hot, usually 1.5 -2 hours of pulling my RV. I have changed the fuel filter several times which works for a short time. Last time I changed it was three weeks ago.
