Aug 28, 2009The brake lights on a 65 and 66 only have power when the key is in the on position, if it is in the off position no power to lights. Aug 06, 2019Here is a '66 wiring diagram. Take a test light and see if you have voltage coming in and out of the brake light switch. Notice that it continues onto the turn signal switch. Dec 31, 2013Light socket plugged in, brake pedal pushed in: Black wire - 7.2 volts Green/Red - 0 volts I also noticed that both filaments light up, no matter which method I try. They certainly look much dimmer when the brake pedal is depressed, a couple pictures are below. Aug 03, 2010I have a 66 Chevelle, the problem is I had a brake light go out on me and tried simply changing the rear bulb. Now the funny part is when I changed the bulb in the right rear brake light it worked but the left one stopped working. It appears a wiring problem but Im just guessing, I'm trying to see if anyone has had similar problems and can help me out.

Feb 25, 201166 was the first year for 4-way flashers and as such, the wiring was kind of complex incorporating the 9-pin box. Now, the two symptoms you described originally (brake lightst AND turn signals not working properly) may suggest you have a bad turn signal relay (this is thte 9-pin box) It is, however, possible that you could have two separate problems.

Power Assisted Drum Brakes all round as standard At rest brake lights work fine A slight jab of the pedal and on they come BUT as soon as I start driving I need to jump hard on the brakes for them to work. Bloody dangerous as I can't "feather " the pedal to toggle the break lights.
